Bronze making

Georgia Conley. Head editor

I believe that without the achievement of making bronze then the Shang Dynasty would not have lasted as long as it did. The  Shang Dynasty is generally known as the bronze age in China. This is because throughout the Shang Dynasty the people learned how to make bronze. "Bronze played an important role in the material culture of that time" (Shang dynasty). The bronze was used for many things during this dynasty to help them live there everyday lives. The people of the Shang Dynasty used bronze when they wrote, when they did math and science, and even when practicing medicine. It had a huge impact on the successful lives of the Shang people."The achievement of bronze making has effected the entire world" (Eileen O'Donnell). The creation of bronze does still effect many people everyday. Without some of the things we have today would not be available to us like they are now.
People of today should be thankful that the Shang Dynasty made bronze when they did. Without the creating of bronze we would not have many things including; door and window frames, mail boxes, or furniture hardware. Bronze is used for many things we would not even have thought of. That is why i believe that the Shang dynasty's bronze making was very important to there success and has greatly helped ours.

   Emperor Di Xin commits suicide

                    Georgia Conley, Head news women

The last king of the Shang Dynasty (Di Xin) committed suicide. The reason for him doing this was because his army was defeated by Wu of Zhou. It is said that his army had betrayed him by joining the army of Zhou. The battle that they were fighting was called " Battle of Muye". This was a very bloody battle for both armies. Since there was a sudden loss of an emperor the Shang Dynasty had to call upon Di Xin's son. His son was named Wu Geng and he ruled Shang as a vassal kingdom. Without Wu Geng being able to have had stepped up and became emperor due to the suicide of his father may have saved the Dynasty. If he had not taken control of the dynasty then it would not have lasted as long as it did.

The Shang Dynasty invented there own writing system that consisted over 3,000 symbols and characters. Each word was represented by multiple symbols and characters. The people of the Shang Dynasty wrote on tortoise shells and flat cattle bones. They also used bronze for the writing.
The Shang Dynasty writing system was developed in 1600 B.C. It was mainly used by the people of the Shang Dynasty. This was one of the only ways the people of the Shang Dynasty would be able to communicate with one another. In the 1920's more then 20,000 writings were discovered in the initial excavations and over four times as many have been discovered since. The Shang Dynasties writing system was one of the first forms of writing created in China.
The invention of the Shang Dynasties writing system changed everybody's lives during this time. It gave people a way of recording important events and most importantly it gave people a way of communicating with one another. The writing system is stilled used today except it has evolved, of course! This writing system even changed our lives today! It gave historians a way of confirming that there was a Shang Dynasty. The people of the Dynasty wrote down many things that we were able to dig up and learn about. Some of the things they wrote down included; politics, economy, religious practices, art and even the early practices of medicine! It was one of the most important and greatest achievements that the Shang Dynasty made!

The Shang dynasty was located under the Yellow River. All of the knowledge about the geography of Shang was from the traditional historiography of the yin.The Yellow River is the most important geographic feature that the Shang dynasty had. It is the second largest river in China right after the Yangtze. The Yellow River was the basis of civilization. The yellow river effected the Shang dynasty because it was a good source of water to be able to trade on. This gave the people of the Shang dynasty an advantage to trade. The yellow river is the most important geographic feature in the Shang Dynasty.
